Dedicated To The Game
By: Kyler Stubblefield
A story of how true talent has been undiscovered until now can motivate anyone to continue to pursue their dreams. Ryan Stubblefield is a quarterback that has faced many obstacles playing the sport he loves.
On September 20, 2001 a boy named Ryan Stubblefield was introduced to the world. Growing up in a family where sports is something everyone participated in Ryan had a couple of choices to choose from. Starting off with the game of baseball Ryan’s arm strength was something everyone noticed. His ability to throw the baseball from centerfield all the way to home-plate effortlessly (at the age of 10) was something that always kept the crowd on their toes. But Ryan didn’t stop there. His seriousness behind sports became more of a reality when he switched from the baseball field to the football field. Flag football is the beginning stage all football players start off playing. The ruling of the sport is still the same, the only difference is tackling is exhibited through pulling of the flag attached to the opponent team. Ryan’s ability to call out correct plays occurring to how the defense is set up has never been a struggle. Many nights he would watch film/football games with his father, Reginald Stubblefield, and decipher what plays should have been called versus what plays were called. Being able to retain information as well as execute it out on the field is a quality every quarterback should have. This could also be referred to as “being coachable”.
Ryan’s true talents were never questionable, but yet many individuals did. Having the support from family and close friends kept Ryan motivated to strive for best and never settle for anything less. Bringing the best out of every opportunity thrown his way, Ryan finally received the chance to play as the starting quarterback for his high school team (Foster High School). The first game of the season started off a little bit rough, but it didn’t take much for Ryan to get back comfortable and finish what he came to do. The season continued on and Ryan and his teammates made a great run in the Texas football UIL playoffs. Coming back his senior year even stronger and faster, Ryan showed us all how dedicated he is to the game. He didn’t let the odds of his ethnicity, height, or any other discouraging comments hinder him from getting to where he wanted to be. Clocking at an impressive 4.6 laser 40, 3,500+ total yards, 42 total touchdowns (in what was voted the toughest district in the state), winner of the Kube -TV player of the year, and finalist of the Houston Touchdown Club. Ryan has been the key to his team’s offence, leading them to five playoff victories during his time there. Two years in a row, Ryan has proven himself worthy of acknowledgement.
Leaving an old chapter and beginning a new one, Ryan decides to take his talents to East Carolina University. At this point Ryan will be taking with him all that he learned and experienced in his hometown to switching gears to present it all to a new crowd. Through any obstacle, Ryan will continue to show how dedicated he is to the game.
