When It Started
Created on September 11, 2005, Congress passed The Real ID Act in hopes to eliminate the percentage of airline terrorism. By increasing the amount of documentation that will allow individuals to board domestic planes, The Real ID Act is the new source of identification. Airports are federal facilities, and this act will affect anyone’s ability to enter them or to board their flight. On October 1, 2020, all states will be required to present the REAL ID licenses or alternate sources of identification (such as a passport) to board any plane.
What Is The Different Look?

The new ID has a new look that differentiates it from the old version. Most states display a gold star on the upper right side of the ID while other states have a black star. Both signify compliance, and if you have either one you’re ready to travel.

Most of the states in the United States are in compliance with The Real ID Act except for Oklahoma, Oregon, and New Jersey. On October 1, 2020, the states under extension will have to present REAL ID licenses. Alternate sources of identification (such as a passport) will still be acceptable to board any plane.
In all actuality, traveling abroad is something that most people do, and if The New ID is something that you will need to have, then make that change if you haven’t already.
Why Is It Important To Have Valid
A State ID is the primary source of identification in the United States. Not having access to valid identification can hinder a person from voting, opening a bank account, applying for loans, boarding a plane, or even entering a certain government building. Simply, identification is a formal representation of who you are exactly. From gender, race, eye color, government name on file, and exact photograph of physical face features, IDs are made for you about you. Considering the rise of fraud, possession on a State ID is becoming more important to have. An original ID serves as a testament that the individual with the document is indeed real and validates that they’re a match. Please stay informed on the changes that occur to documentation needed for access to important places and things.
